Winter Fun for Everyone

Happy New Year! As we start a new year, Maine’s winter cold is here, but it does not have to keep you from having fun. Many places around the state offer a variety of activities, including adaptive winter options, so people of all abilities can enjoy the snow. With warm layers, good boots, and cozy gloves, everyone can stay comfortable while exploring the outdoors. Check out our archived webinar, Adaptive Sports and Recreation , for activity ideas and links to local and national adaptive sports programs.

This month, we are recognizing World Braille Day, which is celebrated on January 4th. From the National Federation of the Blind: “Braille is a code that enables us to read with our fingertips using a system of six raised dots. It was created in 1824 by a French boy named Louis Braille, who was born on January 4, 1809. Today, Braille is used all over the world in many languages.”
Braille helps millions of people who are blind or have low vision read, learn, and communicate. For more information on devices available for loan, check out our AT4Maine loan library, as well as the archived webinar, Low-tech and High-tech AT for Vision Loss, to learn about helpful tools.
