Access technologies help overcome barriers to employment for motivated people with visual impairment.

  • Customized training in accessible technology expand opportunities for people seeking employment, education, or a richer quality of life.
  • Job development, coaching, workforce preparation, and employer support are available.
  • Workplace accommodations may include improved lighting and glare reduction. Computer screen-reading or magnification software, and devices that convert text to speech.

Access Technology and Employment Services: (ATES, pronounced At Ease) 

  • ATES utilizes the most up-to-date access technology and teaching techniques to provide the training required to gain or retain employment.
  • ATES services are provided to increase participant’s ability to use technology to reach their personal, vocational and educational goals.
  • ATES instruction is customized and delivered to individuals in a method that best meet their needs. 

In addition to the individual and group access technology training, ATES:

  • Provides job identification, analysis and business consultation services.
  • Supports job seekers and provides on-site job coaching if necessary.
  • Benefits employers as this program helps retain valued employees who experience a vision loss. 

ATES provides the pathways for: 

  • Employed individuals to continue employment in their current or new field.
  • Unemployed individuals to become employed. 
  • Program participants to explore all educational opportunities, be they formal or informal.
  • All program participants to be able to remain fully engaged with their families, friends and communities. 

ATES enables people who are blind or have low vision actively participate in the information age.
