Position:  live-in staff needed, in Portland.  2 openings.

Agency:  The Iris Network - www.theiris.org  - is a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of helping people who are visually impaired or blind attain independence and community integration.

The Iris Network is seeking the right individuals to live rent-free in a room in our residence building for students with visual impairments in exchange for being available overnight, providing paid coverage in the evening hours, some in the morning hours and on the weekend (coverage needed for both days and the shifts can be worked out with supervisor).  They are primarily responsible for ensuring safety of students participating in an intensive vision rehabilitation and vocational training program at The Iris Network during weekdays 49 weeks per year, with the exception of an additional 2 weeks of unpaid time off.  Live-in staff may sleep while on-call between 10 pm and 6 am while maintaining availability to respond promptly to resident needs during those hours.  Students are working-age adults and live in our residence during overnights, weekends, and holidays.  There are up to 9 working-age adult clients in the dorm.  Breakfast and dinner are made available to live-in staff.

Duties include having evacuation responsibilities during overnight emergencies; responding to student emergencies overnight; and providing paid coverage during evening hours of 5 pm to 10 pm, possibly some during the morning hours between 6 am and 8 am, on the weekend (coverage needed for both days which can be shared between the 2 live-in staff, and the shifts can be worked out with the supervisor), as well as on an as needed basis during any weather-related emergency and holidays.

Must be 18 years or older, must be dependable, responsible individuals with sound judgment and the ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations as well as interacting effectively with both staff and visually impaired students.  Must be able to read and write English proficiently.

Residence building-- one-bedroom per live-in staff person, a shared kitchen and shared bath.  Laundry facilities are currently available, and utilities are included except for phone and cable.  No parking on-site but limited parking in another lot less than ½ mile away.  Easy access to bus line.
