Dietary Aide

Position:  Dietary Aide, in Portland, part-time, no benefits, 20 hours/week (M-F, flexible schedule.)

Start date:  immediate

Agency:  The Iris Network - www.theiris.org - a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of helping people who are visually impaired or blind attain independence and community integration.

The Iris Network seeks a Dietary Aide to assist the Food Service Manager in all areas of meal preparation, service, and clean-up.  

Experience and Qualifications:  The following are required:  a High School Diploma or GED; at least six months experience working in a commercial kitchen, cooking in some capacity; have a working knowledge of and experience with food safety and sanitation; customer service experience; flexible schedule; and a valid Maine drivers’ license.  Baking experience a plus.  The Dietary Aide must have good judgment, people skills, and a sense of humor.  The Dietary Aide must also be able to multi-task, be patient, communicate effectively with students/residents, co-workers and supervisor, must independently complete assigned work in a timely manner with attention to accuracy and detail and must be able to work effectively as part of a team in the kitchen and with customers as well as other program staff.  Experience working with people with disabilities, or with individuals who are visually impaired or blind is a plus.

Duties:  Some of the responsibilities of the Dietary Aide are:  assisting Food Service Manager in meal preparation, clean-up, and service; transport meals to admin building or dormitory, serve meals to residents and students; assist with managing inventory; check food freshness, clean fridge and food pantry at dormitory, assist with periodic inventory of kitchen equipment in dormitory, including ensuring items are in clean, usable and good operating condition; assist students and residents, as necessary, with serving and clean-up after meal(s) and ensuring safe and timely departure of students to Dormitory.
