Vocational Development Coordinator

Position:  Vocational Development Coordinator, part-time (starting at 20 hours/week with the potential to increase as caseload develops), no benefits, based in Portland, ME.

The Iris Network, a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of helping people who are visually impaired or blind attain independence and community integration, seeks a part-time Vocational Development Coordinator at the Portland based Rehabilitation Center. The Center offers individualized, intensive vocational rehabilitation programs for transition-age youth and working-age adults who are visually impaired or blind. 

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in rehabilitation counselling, social work or vocational evaluation; and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in vocational and transition programming for individuals who are visually impaired or blind. Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills.  Knowledge of vocational evaluation is preferred. 

Duties:  The Vocational Development Coordinator will perform vocational assessments for each client; design and implement an individualized training process in which clients obtain greater knowledge of self and vocational potential through participation in work activities and identification of vocational skills, interests and abilities; counsel clients concerning self-awareness of the functional impact of visual impairment in relation to career options and accommodations needed to remove barriers to competitive employment; and Ensure that the program both encourages personal involvement in career development and planning, and encourages self-confidence in career decision-making.
