Summer Fun and Gardening

Raised wooden garden bed with green plantsAs summer approaches, now is a great time to get gardens ready for the season. Raised garden beds, adaptive tools, and simple changes can make gardening easier and more enjoyable for people of all abilities. Gardening is a great way to enjoy fresh air, stay active, and support both physical and mental well-being. Did you know Maine CITE has its own accessible garden? Contact us at info@mainecite.org or call us at 207-621-3195 if you would like to visit and check it out.

For more ideas and tips, Maine AgrAbility offers helpful resources on accessible gardens, adaptive tools, and ways to create gardening spaces that work for everyone. Their information can help make gardening safer, easier, and more enjoyable this summer.

Summer is also a great time to explore outdoor recreation opportunities. Pine Tree Camp provides children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities the chance to enjoy fun, friendship, and independence in a fully accessible outdoor setting. Adaptive Outdoor Education Center (AOEC) offers adaptive recreation and education programs that help people with disabilities stay active and connected, and confident while enjoying the outdoors.
