ADAPTIVE OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER

Check out our offerings for this winter below. We can’t wait to see you soon! adaptiveoutdooreducationcenter.org

UPCOMING PROGRAMS
We have officially started our Horizons Ski Programs. Our Race Team kicked-off their season earlier this month and all we can say is, ‘WOW!’ We have a great team of athletes and some wonderful coaches! It was a joy to see them all cruising around the mountain. We also started our lessons at Sugarloaf, which always puts a smile on our faces! If you haven’t done so already, please start doing your snow dances. Our mountain partners are working hard and some fresh snow would really help!

HORIZONS SKI PROGRAMS
Sugarloaf Mountain (Carrabassett Valley)
This program is geared towards individuals with autism and/or varying developmental abilities. Lessons are two hours and take place in the morning and afternoon. Morning lessons are in a group atmosphere, inclusive with Sugarloaf Ski School. Our afternoon lessons are 1:1.

New Hermon Mountain (near Bangor)
This program is for all abilities and ages! Last year was our inaugural season and we are hopeful that we will be back again this year! We are still working with Hermon Mountain to determine best practices and protocols for the upcoming season.

Saddleback Mountain (Rangeley)
NEW this year! We are excited to see Saddleback up and running after a few years of being closed. We are working with their ski school to provide a program similar to how we operate at Sugarloaf – inclusive lessons for individuals with autism and/or varying developmental abilities. Lessons are available weekdays!

HORIZONS NORDIC SKI & SNOWSHOE PROGRAM
We’re excited to get back out on the Narrow Gauge Pathway this season, but first we need snow! In the meantime, you can get inspired by watching this awesome nordic ski film based in Sweden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrGlEb65KTg

HORIZONS ALPINE RACE TEAM
The season is underway and we are looking forward to watching our athletes continue to build their confidence and camaraderie, both on and off the slopes. We are also excited to offer two Development Days this season. What’s a Development Day? These days are designed to give skiers interested in learning more about ski racing the chance to do so! Skiers will join our race team for a practice, running skills and drills, and experiencing what it is like to be a part of the team.

LOOKING FOR A VACATION IN THE MOUNTAINS?
At the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center we have the fire going, the Carrabassett Coffee brewing, and winter adventures right out our front door! We hope to see you soon.

GIVING SMILES
It’s not too late to help us give more smiles in 2021! Whether you take our smile pledge or choose to donate, you are helping make our world a better place!
