What’s on our Horizon…

Summer is in full swing here at the AOEC! We have been having a blast sharing our days on the climbing wall, sailing in Casco Bay, waterskiing on Indian Pond in the Western Mountains of Maine, and enjoying countless other activities and adventures together.

Here are a few highlights from the month of June:

  • Our first Unified 5k was a tremendous success! Thanks to the incredible team at AdaptX, along with our sponsors, raffle donors, enthusiastic volunteers, and amazing racers who participated in both the 1-mile and 5K events. Together, we created a celebration of inclusion, community, and movement. Check out the recap video here!
  • Fifteen veterans joined us for a multi-day fly-fishing clinic through Veterans Adaptive Sports Training. Participants stayed at the AOEC Carrabassett Valley and enjoyed fishing adventures throughout the Rangeley region. Thank you to the Move United VA Sports Grant for helping make this meaningful experience possible!
  • Our first waterski session of the season at Petersen Water Skiing was one to remember! Watching participants challenge themselves, build confidence, and form new friendships on the water is what these experiences are all about.
  • Folks joined us for a special horticulture therapy program with Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.  Together they made kokedama! This is the Japanese art of growing plants in a moss-covered ball of soil wrapped with string.
  • The AOEC Brunswick campus has been buzzing with excitement as we welcomed eight larger-than-life dinosaurs to our accessible trail system! Be sure to learn more about our upcoming grand opening celebration below and join us in welcoming these magnificent new residents.

From the sea to the mountains, summer is off to an incredible start. Thank you for being part of our community. We hope you’ll join in all the fun ahead!
