What’s on our Horizon…
The days may be longer, but summer always seems to fly by in the blink of an eye! As we wrap up a wonderfully busy July, we’re reflecting on a month full of adventure, community, and connection. Here are just a few highlights:
- We spent a beautiful morning paddling to Curtis Island in Camden with Maine Sport Outfitters during our annual trip, generously sponsored by the Maine Island Trail Association.
- Our Mascoma Bank Nature Series explored Ledgewood Preserve with The Nature Conservancy, enjoying guided nature observations, a scavenger hunt, and birdwatching along the trails.
- We hosted our sixth Wheel Together Retreat in partnership with the Wheel With Me Foundation, bringing together adults with spinal cord injuries for a weekend filled with adaptive recreation, friendship, and unforgettable memories. A special thank you to Petersen Waterskiing and Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation for providing incredible adaptive recreation experiences.
- Our first week of Horizons Summer Camp was packed with smiles, from water play and a visit from the local fire department to exploring our Dino Park and creating art with our wonderfully creative and patient volunteer, John.
- We celebrated the grand opening of our Dino Park with an enthusiastic and educational presentation from Dino Don, followed by tours of the new accessible trail.
- Our Aphasia Book Club wrapped up its second book, The Women. This weekly virtual gathering has become a wonderful place for participants to connect, share perspectives, and enjoy reading together.
While July may be coming to a close, there’s still plenty of summer adventure on the horizon. We hope you’ll join us for the fun!
