Job Training Program

The Iris Network Job Training Project provides a variety of benefits to Maine's residents who are blind or visually impaired and to employers. Through this project, our goals for the individual are the following:

  • Job seekers in Maine who are blind or visually impaired will have accessible real work experiences.
  • People with vision loss will have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned in the rehabilitation process'.
  • The individual will become a part of Maine's workforce for up to three months.
  • The resume will show a current work experience and the individual will have a current letter of reference.

Maine's business community will also benefit from our initiative in the following ways:

  • Large and small employers in Southern Maine will be educated about the skills and abilities of this workforce.
  • Employers will see how adaptive equipment removes many of the barriers people with vision loss face in the work place.
  • The business will get some quality work done at no cost to the company since wages, adaptive equipment and job supports are covered through the Job Training Project.
