Community Connections Program

The Community Connections Project has been designed to provide information about community opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. These opportunities may be social, recreational or related to advocacy. The goal of the Community Connections Project is to convene organizations around the state of Maine who provide these opportunities to consumers and publicize events so that individuals can be more involved.

The Project Coordinator will be working to help coordinate, organize, publicize and strengthen new and existing opportunities. This project will be closely coordinated with the Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired and other organizations working with consumers such as Catholic Charities of Maine, Child Development Services of Maine, Maine Handicapped Skiing, ACB of Maine, NFB of Maine, the New England Blind Athletes Association, the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Parents of Children with Blindness or Visual Impairment, and many others.

Provided on this page is a Community Connection Newsletter that will be updated monthly with opportunities throughout Maine. There are also links to Support Groups and other entities that provide opportunities to people who are blind and visually impaired.

As the Community Connections Project further develops, it will be important to track individuals who participate in opportunities that are provided. Please contact Aisha Hixon, Community Connections Project Coordinator with any groups or opportunities that are happening within the communities throughout Maine.
