I hope you enjoyed a wonderful
holiday season and I wish you the very best for the New Year.
In the coming months, the Iris
Network will develop its capacity to advance independence and
quality-of-life for people in Maine who are visually impaired or blind.
We will reach out to people across our state with a renewed public
education campaign, consider approaches to further developing our
programs, and explore new strategies to reach people in more diverse
locations.
These efforts will reflect our
longstanding commitment to working with people across Maine who are
visually impaired or blind so they may achieve their determined level of
independence and integration into the community. As the incidence of
vision impairment rises throughout the U.S., the Iris Network must grow
stronger, more flexible, and wider. One of our key strategies will be to
increase the role and impact of our field staff. We want to make sure
that our services are available as close as possible to where our
clients live.
Technology will be a partner in
our growth. We will explore Global Positioning Systems, Internet-based
strategies, and new approaches to using computers to evaluate their
potential for our clients.
A strategic planning process
will guide our efforts as we engage with new possibilities for
collaborating with the thousands of people across Maine who are visually
impaired and blind. Your support is even more essential to our future
than it has been in the past. Thank you for your partnership.
Sincerely,
- Adam Zayan, MD, MPH
- President/CEO

Portland
Jim Phipps is new Chair of the Iris Network’s
Board of Directors. An attorney specializing in
non-profit and health care law who is a partner
at the Portland based firm of Preti, Flaherty,

“I have seen a great deal of positive change at
the Iris Network,” Jim says. “I am more and more
impressed with the talented and very
professional people on staff who deliver high
quality services across Maine.” As Chair, Jim
contributes to all aspects of the agency’s work,
from program development to fundraising. The
Iris Network community appreciates his
leadership and the time he devotes to the agency
