Dear Friends of the Iris Network:

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer. This
issue of Insights provides vibrant snapshots of the past, present, and future of the Iris Network. On the front page, we bring you special moments from August’s Grand Opening of the Iris Park Apartments, a celebration of a successful community effort to create new housing for individuals with vision loss. Thank you for your friendship, contributions, and moral support as the Apartments became a proud, new reality.

We also introduce the Technology Initiative, a
critical program that will focus the Iris Network over the next three years on low-cost, highly-usable assistive technologies that can enable people with vision loss to attain new horizons of independence, fulfillment, and achievement. We will share more information on the Technology Initiative over the next few months. We ask you to help us by responding to the survey on page 3.

Also in this issue you will find glimpses of our growing presence in the larger community. You will read about some volunteers who truly made a difference, a golf tournament that brought many together to support our program services, and about the 11th Annual White Cane Awareness Walk, a bright highlight of our year; please take part in this important event, which builds awareness of people with vision loss.

We heartily thank you for all you have done to support the Iris Network in meeting our evolving goals. We place the highest value on your partnership as we continue to move forward.

Sincerely,

James E. (Jim) Phipps, Chairman of the Board
